Since 1977, STUDIO IN A SCHOOL has changed the lives of young people in the five boroughs by providing arts education, access, and classroom resources. I’m thrilled to be running the New York City Marathon with Team Studio and I would be extraordinarily grateful if you shared my journey to November 3, and my belief in championing this important organization.
My fundraising goal to support Studio in a School is $3,000 – can I count on you to help support students in our community and get me to the finish line?
Studio provides visual arts programs taught by professional artists for students from Pre-K to college, allowing children to explore and develop their creative potential and broadening their horizons. Tailored to each classroom, programs taught by Studio’s educators can last from weekslong modules to several years, through residencies, mentorship, and of course teaching students how to become arts practitioners.
The resources Studio advocates for – reaching 23,000 students annually – are of persistent need in public schools in our city, particularly those which educate young people in low-income communities. If you’re reading this page, you already know that New York has one of the most prominent cultural scenes in the world. It is a travesty that economic reasons can prevent our children from building the skills to understand, appreciate, and make art, especially when an arts education is proven to have wide-ranging benefits to other academic coursework, problem-solving, and emotional understanding and compassion.
As a former museum worker and organizer, equity in the arts has been a driving motive and value every day of my career. Having benefited from exposure to visual art throughout my life, I believe deeply that every person deserves the transformative experiences art provides. This will be my second New York City Marathon and I hope to run it thanks to YOUR support of Studio in a School!
