This May, I'm riding the Five Boro Bike Tour, 40 miles through New York City, to celebrate turning 50 and to raise money for Studio In a School, an organization that brings professional teaching artists into under-resourced NYC public schools.
When school budgets get tight, arts education is almost always the first thing to go. But giving kids the chance to make art isn't optional, especially now. Kids are growing up more connected to screens than to each other, so the chance to draw, paint, build, or just make something with their hands is becoming even more important. Studio In a School puts real artists in front of kids and in schools that need it the most.
